About Nagpur Flying Club
Originating in the British era, the Nagpur Flying Club (NFC) is a historic organization. It is frequently recognized as India’s first aviation school and the country’s least expensive flight school. The NFC was founded in 1947 by hobbyist pilots. The Maharashtra government did, however, acquire control of it in 1990, and it is still in operation today.
The Club’s primary goal is to advance the art and science of aeronautics and flight. Why NFC Needed Approval to Resume Morwa Airport Operations
Due to traffic at Nagpur’s congested airport and the ongoing runway recarpeting project, the club’s training operations have been severely disrupted since June 2024. Due to construction, the runway is closed from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Consequently, this hindered NFC students’ advancement in aviation jobs by preventing them from accruing the requisite flying hours needed to get their Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
Students and experts in the aviation industry were very concerned about this issue. In order to ensure that students may finish their programs without additional delays, NFC currently has a temporary option to continue flying instruction at Morwa with the most recent permission from the DGCA.
Future Forward
A number of requirements are outlined in the letter of authorization that DGCA joint director general Maneesh Kumar gave for NFC’s activities at Morwa Airport. The need that the club provide a safety risk assessment report following three months of operation is one of them. Furthermore, night flying activities have received conditional approval, contingent on rigorous respect to safety regulations.
The chairperson of the NFC, Nagpur Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, expressed gratitude to the DGCA and Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) for accommodating their proposal to extend to Chandrapur’s Morwa Airport.
